DIY Formal Hairstyles

We’ve rounded up three DIY formal hairstyles for you to try (a few weeks before the wedding so you can get the hang of them)! Styling your own hair, while challenging, is really the best way you can ensure that you feel comfortable and feel like you even while dressed a little fancier.

1. Simple Bun and Braid

This style combines two classic and easy hairdos to create an updo that looks complicated but isn’t. Use a two-inch section of hair to create a three-strand braid and tie the end with a clear ponytail holder. Make a low ponytail using the rest of your hair while taking care to comb all the way through and leaving it tangle-free. Use a small donut bun sponge to create a flawless bun and then guide the braid down the side of your head before pinning it into the base of the bun. A quick mist of TRESemmé TRES Two Unscented Extra Hold Hair Spray will keep your style in place all night long. Finish off with a few flowers tucked neatly into the bun.

2. Twisted Updo

This style requires a bit more effort but is relatively simple to create. Start off by sectioning off the front of your hair and placing a thin stretchy headband behind those front pieces and above the rest of your hair. Think floral wreath placement. Gather the hair beneath the headband and tuck it over the band and down into itself. You should be left with a rounded updo as pictured above. Take the front strands on both sides and twist them and pin them into place just above the updo. A few small flowers tucked into the updo add a festive touch and a bit of the Suave Professionals Castor Oil & Mango Butter Defining Gel will help you keep any flyaways in check.

3. Classic Curls

When it doubt, fall back on a classic hairstyle. Spray Nexxus Weightless Style Prep & Protect Leave-In Spray on freshly washed and dried hair and use a one-inch curling iron to create ringlets all over your head. Comb them through for a beachier and worn-in look, or keep them intact for a black tie wedding. Looking for more DIY formal hairstyles? Learn how to create a twisted chignon for your wedding.
